ABOUT

ABOUT SOLACE

Set across ten private acres in Joshua Tree, Solace Retreat is a two-home desert stay created around the things that drew us here in the first place: open space, extraordinary light, a slower pace, and the feeling of being together without needing to fill every moment.

Solace House and Shadow House are distinct homes with spaces and personalities of their own, connected by the same landscape and a shared idea: room to gather, space to retreat.

OUR STORY

The High Desert has been part of our story for years. We fell in love out here, and some of our favorite memories have been made under these skies, just the two of us, with family, and with friends we love.

Solace grew from wanting to create the kind of place we were always searching for ourselves: thoughtful and beautiful, but never too precious to actually live in. Somewhere you can gather around a long table, lose an afternoon by the pool, stay up late around the fire, and still find a quiet corner when you want one.

That idea became two homes on ten acres, each with its own character but designed to come together as one retreat. We’ve obsessed over the details, from the art and materials to the way the rooms open onto the desert, because we wanted Solace to feel personal, warm, and full of character.

This place has given us countless memories, and getting to share a little of what we love about the desert with other people is one of the most meaningful parts of creating Solace. More than anything, we hope you leave with a few memories of your own.

DESIGNING SOLACE

The design of Solace takes its cues from the landscape rather than competing with it. Warm woods, limewashed walls, handcrafted tile, natural textures, sculptural desert elements, and commissioned artwork create interiors that feel grounded in their surroundings while still having a distinct point of view.

Throughout the retreat, architecture and landscape are meant to flow into one another. Large openings frame the mountains and desert, bedrooms connect to private patios and outdoor showers, and the shared spaces move easily from inside to out.

The two-home layout was equally intentional. Groups can gather around the same table, pool, or fire, then retreat into separate homes, bedrooms, patios, and quiet spaces of their own.

THE HIGH DESERT

Joshua Tree has a way of changing the pace of things.

Solace sits on ten secluded acres near Joshua Tree National Park and protected desert land, surrounded by open views, mature Joshua trees, and mountains in nearly every direction. It feels removed from everyday life, yet town, restaurants, shops, and the park are only minutes away.

That balance is part of what we love about it: immersion without isolation, stillness without inconvenience, and enough space to experience the desert on its own terms.

CARED FOR LOCALLY

Solace is cared for locally by a hospitality team at CoHost, led by our friend Andrew, who has been part of the property’s story from the beginning and shares our belief that the smallest details often create the most memorable stays.
